17 Virtues of Fruit of the Spirit

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Galatians 5:16-18

To be led by the spirit simply means you are truly the sons of God, Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Whatever that is visible in the physical is already settled in the spiritual because the spiritual controls the physical.

When you are led by the spirit, you will find it hard to satisfy the flesh because everything done in spirit will always please God whether it’s  convenient for you or not. Allowing the spirit to control you guarantees your right standing with God because it’s only those that are led by the spirit are the true sons of God

Here are some qualities of the fruit of the spirit to help you maintain right balance in your Christian walk.

  1. Patience.

Patience is not simply the ability to wait, is how we behave while we’re waiting. Exercising patience in your Christian walk shows a lot of spiritual maturity and can make you handle almost every situation. Just Let patience have his way. See 1 timothy 6:11, James 1:3-4

  1. Humility.

This is the solid foundation of all virtues. I remembered when our daddy in the lord Pastor E.A Adeboye once said that there was a time when he was an interpreter for Pastor Josiah the founder of R.C.C.G. and there was a time a pastor wanted to preach and he asked him to come and interpret for him and he said me? Interpret for you? But along later on after he became the G.O of R.C.C.G. he visited one of the parish of the church and as he was entering a deacon wanted to preach, as they saw him they were all surprise, so immediately the deacon handed the over to the G.O and asked him to come and preach, but our daddy in the lord said you preach then I will interpret for you. Are you humble? See 1 Peter 5:5

  2. Gentleness.

There is a popular saying that says “the gentility of a lion does not mean that the lion is stupid” being gentle does not mean that you are a fool; you are just an exhibit of God’s grace. Our lord Jesus Christ never mistreated him. He confronted them in a spirit of gentleness and then continued to love them. See 2 Timothy 2:24

  3. Integrity.

The greatness of man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively. With integrity, you have nothing to fear, since you have nothing to hide. With integrity, you will do the right thing, so you will have no guilt. See Psalm 25:21, proverbs 11:3, 20:7

  1. Contentment.

Godliness with contentment is great gain. With Contentment you already have everything that you really need. Contentment is satisfaction. When you are discontent, you always want more, more and more. When you practice contentment you can say to yourself oh yes – I already have everything that I really need. See 1 Timothy 6:6

  2. Faith.

Hebrews 11:1 now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Without faith it is impossible to please God. See Hebrews 11:6

  3. Obedience.

There is no amount of sacrifice you can pay for the wages of disobedience that will make your obedience complete. Partial or half obedience is not obedience, is better you obey fully or you don’t obey at all. One of the ways of pleasing God is total obedience. Either you obey or disobey; you’ll surely get your reward. Remember to obey is better than sacrifice. See Romans 5:19

  4. Giving.

As it takes mature mind to be generous it also takes more matured heart to give. It is more blessed to give than to receive. You can’t be a giver and ever remain a beggar because givers never lacks. Give to please God and never give to please a man. See Proverbs 28:27, Luke 6:36

  5. Respectful.

Show me a man who is respectful and I will show you a man who has humility. A respectful man can never be an irresponsible man. Respectfulness shows that you have a sound mind. A respectful man will always remain a humble and a God fearing man. See psalm 119:15

  6. Selfdiscipline.

This is another virtue that distinguished between a serious minded person and unserious minded person. Self-discipline is simply doing the right thing at the right place and at the right time whether it is convenient or not. Self-discipline requires a lot sacrifice, commitment, dedication and total focus. With this virtue, you are guaranteed to stand out in your Christian walk. See 1 Thessalonians 5:23, 2 Peter 3:14

  7. Peacefulness.

Following peace with all men will also guarantee your peace. You can’t be a trouble maker and want to experience peace. But if you are a peacemaker, peace will always follow you. When you are at peace, you can never make a regrettable decision that will mar or break your destiny. It is only when you are at peace you can hear from God. Never forget to follow peace with all men. See Romans 14:19, 2 timothy 2:22, Hebrews 12:14

  8. Purity.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. The number one key for purity is holiness. Without this, no man can see God. See 1 timothy 4:12, Matthew 5:8, Philippians 4:8, 1 Peter 1:22

  9. Kindness.

Love is kind and kind is love. It takes a kind hearted person to show and express genuine love. For you to be kind is to love and for you to love is to be kind. The two will always go together because they’re twin virtues that cannot be neglected in your Christian walk. See Romans 12:10-13

  10. Meekness.

Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. To everyman there is greatness, the depth of your meekness determines the height of your greatness. See James 3:13, Mathew 5:5

  11. Forgiveness.

This virtue alone can open doors for prayers to be answered quickly. Forgiving spirit will always put you in right standing with God. Anyone who forgives easily is matured in heart. Don’t just forgive alone, forgive and forget and move on with your life to enter a new chapter. See Matthew 6:14-15

  12. Perseverance.

By perseverance, the snail reaches the ark. If the snail have not gotten the ark, there might not be anything called a snail today. We thank God that Bro Noah was able to persevere and have patience with the snail to walk to the ark. Perseverance also needs total focus and while waiting clanged on the word of God so that you won’t get disconnected. Because him only can reward your endurance. Ephesians 6:18

  13. Love.

Love conquers all. To sum everything in one place is love. As easy as drinking water. Love can activate all the virtues of the fruit of the spirits. Love is kind, love is pure, love is giving, love speaks the truth, love does not hate, and love is peaceful. 1 Corinthians 13:13, John 15:13

These are just 17 virtues of the fruit of the spirit out of many. Work on them and you’ll be glad you did. God bless you and remain blessed forever.
