Luke 18:9-14 KJV
And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are , extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
We all know that pride is what God hate so much, pride can destroy a man, no matter how educated, respected or anointed the person maybe. Anyone who is proud cannot be a friend of God and can never please God. Maybe you’re the type that still boasts of your righteousness, boast of your good works, boast of how you have helped people, boast of how you have given, that means the spirit of pride still dwells in you and you must ask God for forgiveness so that you won’t be a victim of a fallen hero.
Boasting of self righteousness is one of the ways the devil uses to bring a man down. He starts by polluting the heart of the fellow by reminding him the good deeds he has done. Like the case of king Nebuchadnezzar.
To continue seeing the glory of God being manifest in our lives, we must not boast of our righteousness and we must kill the spirit of pride. We must work out our salvation with fear and trembling. (See Philippians 2:12). Remember the bible also tells us that our righteousness is like a filthy rag. (See Isaiah 64:6). If our righteousness is like a filthy rag why then should we boast of it? May God have mercy on us and help us to see where we need to make
amendment in our lives in order not to miss his plan and purpose for our lives.
How Can we Deal With Self Righteous
For us to deal with self righteousness, we must first admit that none of us is righteous, not even one. It’s only God that knows us inside and outside, so he’s the only one that can declare us righteous like he did to Abraham.
Romans 3:10-12 KJV
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
Secondly, Kill that spirit of pride. Proverbs 16:18 (KJV) Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
Thirdly Humility. Being humble gives no room for pride and shows the level of your maturity. A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
Fourthly, Focus. We must not listen to the appraisal of man. We must not focus on what the world is saying; rather we should be focus on the word of God, keep pressing forward to attain. Heaven is the goal
Lastly, we must be ready to surrender ourselves to Holy Spirit and also be filled with the Holy Spirit. It’s the Holy Spirit that works on us and brings us to level of perfection.
1 Peter 5:6 KJV
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.
Beloved, let’s beware of self righteousness in order not to lose our timely divine lifting and eternal rewards.
God bless you.
